We tried the NJ location in the USA. (All Locations)
I have heard of these locations but never took the time to really go out of my way to test the food and the drinks that they are known for… well the time is now.
The thought was to test the food mainly and see how the company is handling the guidelines with Covid-19. Well in regards to the restrictions, they did very well. Currently you need to have your mask on while going to and from your table only. Once seated the server will come over and always have their mask on. During the visit I didn’t see any workers take their mask off at all. Which was actually impressive as most places you see workers do this on the side.
We ordered 2 appetizers to start and both did not disappoint.
First App. – Tostones with chicken and cheese and salsa basically. Which were so good that we all said we needed to make at home. They sell them frozen in the Goya section in the supermarkets\stores in the USA. You can buy those and cook them and add your toppings of chicken, cheese, etc.
Second App. – Yuca mozzarella strips. We really thought that these were not going to be good but they did an amazing job in not adding too much yuca and just the right amount of cheese.
The main courses were all very good overall. I won’t get into all of them but the highlights, sure why not.
Seafood Paella – If you haven’t tried one before a paella is a blend of rice with seasonings, typically a little spice and then with different types of meats or seafoods, etc. I tasted this dish and it did not disappoint. I would try it if you like seafood.
Baby Back Ribs – If you haven’t tried baby back or any style ribs before, this is a good place to test them as they did a great job. The meat pealed right off the bone. Note – if you are looking for the thick version with tons of meat, these are not the ones like that, but they had a lot of meat. See images. Typically with making ribs you have 2 choices, 1 cook them for hours on end and wait for most of the day to eat them, or use an Instant-Pot and cook them first in there for several minutes and finish off in the oven and have ribs that literally fall off the bone and are juicy and delicious within about 1 – 1.5 hours end to end.
Jamaican Stuffed Plantain Bowl – If you have never tried a stuff plantain, you are missing out on a heavenly treat. I added the link in the name just so you can explore and try them out regardless of going anywhere for them. Just research the tips on what color they should be when you cook them.
Their dish was very good but if you are not a black bean fan, don’t get this dish. I am a fan so I enjoyed it very much.
The drinks were very good and were not weak or too strong. We purposely had one drink and stayed for well over an hour and felt completely fine. So follow the guidelines of your state or area and be sure to not drink and drive!
Our server’s name was Cullen. He did an excellent job from start to finish. I typically will add a name of someone impressed with me their service only. Kudos to Cullen! He repeated the order back to be sure he had everything, was attentive on drink levels, was attentive on the needs of the people at the table, never removed his mask, was pleasant and didn’t over serve by coming to the table every 3 minutes.
